Seniors Jill Campbell and Courtney Coppinger won the second annual Mad for Plaid fashion show Feb. 1 in the M&A Auditorium. A total of 11 teams competed to win a $500 cash prize. Teams could use one STA tartan plaid skirt to work into a fashionable outfits, which were judged by a panel of three local fashion experts. Campbell and Coppinger created a nautical themed yellow and plaid dress with a black and white checkered collar.
“It felt awesome to win a school wide contest because I never thought our team would have that great of a chance,” Coppinger said. “It was great to represent the plaid in a cute outfit that a lot of people enjoyed.”

In addition to creating an outfit out of tartan plaid, teams had to make a video of their experience.
Freshmen Siena Hutchison, Meg Sweeny, Meredith Mulhern and Mary Kate Cancannon. won the People Choice Award. After hearing the judges comments, the audience had a chance to vote for their favorite outfit. Winner of the People’s Choice Award received a cash prize based on the show’s earning for the night, a total of $225 according Mulhern.
“I was really surprised that we won [the People’s Choice Award],” Mulhern said. “There were so many other great outfits and I was actually shocked. I couldn’t get over it for like half an hour.”
According to sophomore Hannah Bredar, the funniest video of the night was The Plastics’ spin off of “Mean Girls.”
