Student anticipates groundbreaking ceremony

Student anticipates groundbreaking ceremony

Hey blogosphere.  I know, I’m not a regular, but this is a special treat.  Get excited.

I am here to blog about the uber fantastic event going on today: the groundbreaking ceremony for our new Windmoor Center/ St. Joseph’s Chapel.

Now, I know that many of the students are not happy about this new project.

Some seniors are upset that their perfect pre-prom backdrop is being destroyed.  Juniors are upset that they will graduate before they even get to used it but will still have to suffer through the noisy drilling and ugly construction.

And every single student with a Donnelly advisory is especially peeved since they have to walk all the way around the construction fence to get to their building in the morning.

But guys, it will all be worth it!

Sure, the seniors and juniors won’t be able to use it while they are students, but that is the beauty of the center!  It has been designed for alumnae to come back and visit.

I know I will come back to a campus that is more beautiful than I left it, and that’s saying something.

And the sophomores and freshmen will have a cool new chapel and new technology filled classrooms to use.

I’m sure as soon as your foot steps through those doors you will forget all about what you had to go through to get there.  I think for the first time since I became an upperclassman, I am jealous of the underclassmen.  Enjoy that while it lasts.

Quite frankly, I’m excited for the ceremony today too.

I’m sitting here in makeup with my hair done and a nice skirt and shirt on, and I’m actually waiting for that 7/8 (ugh, fine period 4) bell to ring so I can rush down to the gym to get the best seat possible.

I mean, come on girls how many times do we get to dress UP at the academy.  Almost never.  It’s actually kind of fun (but only once).

And the bishop is here too!  Mr. Thomas told us yesterday that for the nine years he has been teaching here, never once has the bishop come to campus.

So this tells you that this is something very, very worthwhile.

Enjoy this, girls!  This is history in the making.  Future academy girls will look back on this and wonder what it was like when their super cool chapel was being built.

We are the lucky 600 girls who get to say to our kids and grandkids, ‘When I went to school there, they were still building the chapel.  I was at the groundbreaking ceremony.’Â  So take note of all the meticulous details so you can bore your children with later.

All I can say is that I’m really excited (if you couldn’t already tell from the above 454 words) and I want to share this enthusiastic zeal with my fellow students.

So sing loud and proud at the ceremony, smile brightly at the Bishop to show him how awesome we are, and just remember what it feels like to be an academy girl on this day.

I’ll be back to blog about my reaction to the service, so stay tuned’¦

We want to know what you think!  How do you feel about the new chapel and the groundbreaking ceremony?  Please comment below.
