STA supporters respond to Chapel of St. Joseph and Windmoor Center ground breaking ceremony

Bishop Robert Finn

What was your favorite part about doing the ceremony?

‘Well, just seeing everyone and being here – it’s been a little while since I’ve been here at St. Teresa’s Academy so it’s great to see all the students and their enthusiasm and their reverence.  And of course it was a beautiful day and a tremendous showing of parents and benefactors.  It’s all very exciting to see such good support.’

Sister Ruth Stuckel

What was your reaction to the ceremony today?  How do you think it went?

‘I think the ceremony was beautiful.  It was simple, but faith-filled.’

Sister Rosemary Flanigan, recipient of the Mother Evelyn O’Neil Award for Excellence in Education

What was the most memorable part of the ceremony for you?

‘After the blessings and all of the good holy things, the most most memorable part was when the Goppert [Center] emptied out and all those St. Teresa’s Academy girls came rolling out as it were, and the choir was singing.  And I thought every one of those girls is carrying on a tradition that’s 145 years old.  That’s wonderful.’

Admissions assistant Marcia Warwick

What was your favorite part about the ceremony today?

‘Our beautiful weather, it just seemed like that was a blessing to have the sun shining and such a beautiful blue sky.  And I loved hearing our girls singing because they sounded so beautiful today.  I think those were the two things that will stick with me.’

Admissions director Roseann Hudnall

What effect did the ceremony have on you?

‘You know, I thought the ceremony was extremely moving, having Bishop Finn here to cement the idea of our Christianity and Catholicity and how important it is to St. Teresa’s Academy.  And finally seeing this thought, this vision, start to become a reality, to me, is just overwhelming.’

Mr. Mark Thompson

As a parent and a donor, what did you take away the most from the ceremony today?

‘Well, it’s a beautiful day, the sun was shining down.  Something that of course we’ll remember forever and I think just the peacefulness of the situation.  The beautiful trees, the birds, a little bit of clouds, but the sun shining through.  It really made me feel what a great blessing it is to have this and I’m, if anything, sad that my daughter Addie is graduating and doesn’t get the benefit of it.  But, the benefit, it’s the spirit of the whole place, which she had and will continue on.  And of course we have two more girls that will be coming through in years to come; by then it’ll be well broken in by that time, the chapel.’
