Fingerprinting technology shortens lunch wait

The administration is currently implementing a fingerprinting system for the new Bistro Kids lunch provider at STA.

This system will be used to help students progress through the lunch line as quickly and efficiently as possible.

According to Ms. Barbara McCormick, students are already setting up their fingerprints with Bistro Kids during lunch.

“Students currently have the ability to set up an account with the fingerprinting system during their lunch period whenever they choose,” McCormick said.

The new system requires students to scan their right thumb four times to establish their fingerprint in the school’s system. Then that student will be able to pay for lunches by scanning their thumb at any time. Instead of students paying by cash, parents will have the ability to reload money onto each student’s account as needed, According to McCormick.

McCormick said some students may choose to use their card for the rest of the year, and yet others may choose to continue to bring their lunch from home. Those who choose to use the fingerprinting system will no longer need the card they previously received.
