My Fair City: Philip Glass at the Kauffman

by Cara McClain

Last night I had the pleasure of seeing composer Philip Glass at the Kauffman Center of Performing Arts. This was my first trip to the Kauffman, and I had the reaction probably everyone else did: contented amazement.

While the building was under construction, I honestly was not that excited about it and felt neutral about the outside design. That completely changed once I was inside. The building is so beautiful! I’m so proud that Kansas City now has a space like that to welcome more performances.

All around it was a beautiful evening. The music was wonderful. Philip Glass is probably the cutest old man (he recently turned 75, although he looks younger). He made little jokes with the audience. It was adorable and  furthered my love for him and old men in general.

If you have the chance to go to the Kauffman for a performance, definitely take it.
