Students win art awards

The gold and silver key awards were awarded to STA students earlier this month. According to the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards website, these awards are an important opportunity for students to be recognized for their creative talents.

According to senior Jacqueline Kerr, who was awarded a silver key for her piece, Jacqueline’s Hawaiian Adventure, she was thrilled when she heard the news.

“I was really excited [about receiving the award],” Kerr said. “I was honored to be given the award.”

Kerr also said her piece that won was the one she admired the most.

“I think that was probably my favorite project and it took the most time,” Kerr said. “The whole process just took longer than [it usually does].”

According to the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards website, they have given over $25 million in scholarships and are the longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for creative teenagers in the United States.

Kerr agrees and said one of the main reasons she was happy about receiving the silver key was because she was plans to study art in college.

“I plan on studying illustration and animation,” Kerr said. “That’s my favorite thing to do and I plan to do something related with art in the future.”
