CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE
This audio interview is part of a series completed by STA journalism students who sat down with middle school students from around Kansas City. We hoped to find out the realities of middle school life, from dating to cliques, from playing violin to playing volleyball. The series was inspired by Ira Glass’s public radio show This American Life and its episode “Middle School.” Please check back each day for the next few weeks to listen to another installment.

Growing up the youngest in a big family is always hard, but being the only boy with four older sisters seems impossible.
“I am the youngest, my name is Will Tampke.”
Luckily he does not always have to face this problem alone. When Will was four Will’s oldest sister, Sarah, brought home Adam Hare for the first time.
“I don’t remember meeting Adam,” Will said.
This fifteen year old boy had no idea that in eight years he would have created a strong friendship and brotherhood with the little boy in the highchair across the room. Will is now twelve and has treated Adam like a brother ever since the day they met, and Will plans to keep that way forever.
