Cole Sirokman: Now Expert on Broken Arms

    CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE

This audio interview is part of a series completed by STA journalism students who sat down with middle school students from around Kansas City.  We hoped to find out the realities of middle school life, from dating to cliques, from playing violin to playing volleyball.  The series was inspired by Ira Glass’s public radio show This American Life and its episode “Middle School.”  Please check back each day for the next few weeks to listen to another installment.

Cole Sirokman is your average sixth grade boy. He is the middle child between two sisters, Haley and Quinn. He goes to Visitation Grade School and his obsessions include lacrosse and K-State.

Last fall Cole broke his arm playing football and has had the cast on to prove it for the last 3 months. He describes everything from the events on the day of to the aftermath in physical therapy.

“I remember that I looked at my arm and it was out of place and broken badly,” Cole said.

“At physical therapy I learned to do all sorts of amazing things. They showed me how to bend my wrist and stretch it and I have to do push-ups on the wall with my arm,” Cole said.

Cole also informed me that casts were itchy and that I should never break my arm. I promised to do my best not to.
