STA Dart senior looks back on time as a staffer

Before the classical music from the orchestra plays me off, there are some people I want to thank and memories I want to relive.

As I was sitting in my first journalism class (and first class ever at STA), if someone would have told me that my budding interest for journalism was going to turn into a full-blown passion and life for the next four years, I would have said, ‘You’ve got the wrong girl.’ If someone had told me that I would take thousands of pictures for the Dart and win state and national awards for them, I probably would have run screaming at the thought of other people looking at my work. But no one told me.

Whether it be redesigning the Dart in Muncie, Ind. at Ball State University journalism camp, being entranced with the montage channel in Washington, DC, the tortuously long ride to and from St. Louis, being the biggest fools at journalism convention dances, screaming like gladiators at J-Day and late night publication nights, it’s all been part of my Dart life. Imagine we did all of these shenanigans while producing an incredible paper. The talent. Thank you Darters for both an unforgettable experience and product that we are all proud of.

I also want to thank the Dart for a new passion, food and lots of it, ab-shaping laughter, carpal tunnel syndrome and a family for the past three years.

I’m sure Mr. Thomas will be mentioned a lot, but thanks anyways, Dad. For introducing me to photography and giving me the confidence to actually take a picture. And for sacrificing your family life, not to mention what little hair you had when this all started.

Goodbye Dart, cutouts, Photoshop, stress, Mr. T., Darters and the blue partition: it’s been phenomenal.
